Mechanics

The loops that keep users coming back

Each mechanic is a product feature you configure. Engineering sets up event tracking. You decide what those events unlock and how they're presented to users.

Achievements
Unlock a badge when a user hits a metric, keeps a streak, or completes a one-off action. Change the trigger in the dashboard and it goes live without a deploy.

Streaks
Daily, weekly, or monthly streaks with freezes. Trophy tracks each user in their own time zone, including DST, so a missed day is actually a missed day.

Points
Award XP or coins for actions in the product. Levels and limited-time boosts sit in the same system so you can tune the economy from the dashboard.

Dashboard

Change the mechanic without a release

Once events are flowing, you own the rules. Raise a threshold, add a streak freeze, start a leaderboard, or retire an achievement from the Trophy control panel.

Triggers you can edit
Configure streaks, points systems, achievements and more from the dashboard.
Live without a deploy
Save in the dashboard and the next qualifying event uses the new rule. No waiting for engineers.
Experiment and optimize
Create different experiences for different user cohorts. Measure the impact of each change.

In-app experience

Embed now, native later

Render Trophy state with the open-source UI kit, or embed a hosted page while the native surface is still on the roadmap.

Hosted page
Embed a full gamification dashboard hosted by Trophy with one line of code. Matches your design system.
Open-source UI kit
Give engineering pre-built components to help them ship custom UI faster.
Your own UI
Use the API in headless mode for full control over the user experience.

See which mechanics bring people back

Trophy shows completions, participation, and the engagement impact of each mechanic. Use that to decide what to ship next.

Completions and participation
How many users unlocked an achievement, held a streak, or joined a leaderboard over time.
Retention
Measure how much each mechanic drove users to return to your product.
Engagement
Measure how much each mechanic increased overall usage and engagement with your brand.

FAQ

Questions from product teams

Have a different question and can’t find the answer you’re looking for? Send us an email.

How is this different from Trophy for growth teams?
Growth teams typically launch challenges and leaderboards over email with a hosted progress page. Product teams put the same primitives in the app: badges, streaks, points, and leaderboards in the core experience. You can run both on one account.
Can I change an achievement after it launches?
Yes. All triggers, thresholds, and filters live in the dashboard. Update them at any time without waiting for engineering resources.
How much engineering time does setup take?
Engineering installs an SDK and emits events from an existing product action, typically taking a few hours. After that, you configure mechanics in the dashboard and go live immediately with emails or a hosted page, or take another week for engineering to build native UI.
Can we start with a hosted page and go native later?
Yes. Embed the hosted page to display gamification UI on your app. Build native UI later when your engineering team is ready.
How do we know if a mechanic worked?
Trophy shows completions, participation, engagement and retention over time. Compare that to the period before the mechanic launched, or run A/B tests to measure the impact of each change.
How is this priced?
Trophy is free up to 1,000 monthly active users, then a fixed rate per active user per month. See the pricing page for full details.
