We Went To WebSummit
A couple weeks back we headed to WebSummit Lisbon to showcase Trophy as part of the ALPHA startup program.
Few takeaways:
- Most already understand the benefits of gamification
- Some aren't sure on how to implement gamification in the 'right' way for them
- Almost all are too busy to build it themselves
This was more validation that we're on the right track and it makes us super excited to keep growing!

π€ User Details Page
The new user details page shows data from a particular user including their streak, activity history, points, leaderboard rankings and more.
This is a great analytical tool but also useful for debugging.

π¨ Restore Streak Utility
The reason for adding the new user details page was to create a space for a range of new utilities for managing user data as part of internal support.

The first of which is a utility to restore a user's streak. Restoring a user's streak will set it to the length it was when the user last lost it.
π₯ Leaderboard Performance Improvements
Since we released leaderboards a month ago, over 33,000 end users have taken part in at least one leaderboard, making it Trophy's fastest growing feature.
Currently, Trophy processes ~ 1M rank changes every day. To keep this performant as we scale to handling 100M+ rank changes per day we decided to invest in upgrading our architecture.
This has resulted in rank changes that used to take ~ 50ms to compute now taking 1-2ms.
Why does this matter?
Because better performance means lower latency, which means a better experience for your users.
(For technical folks that are interested, we added a Redis caching layer and compute ranks with ZRANK that are flattened and flushed to disk in batches.)
