Challenge

Most giving happens in bursts: a year-end appeal, or a reaction to a headline. Ritmo is built on the idea that a dollar a day, given consistently, does more good than the occasional large donation. Members choose a monthly amount and the causes they care about, and each day they pick from a short set of verified nonprofits in about ten seconds.

Members choose their causes, get a giving plan, then pick one cause to give to each day.

The model only works if people come back every day, so the streak sits at the center of the product. Ritmo's small development team started building in January 2026 and had to decide carefully what to build in-house and what to buy. A streak needs time zones, day boundaries, resets, and state that stays in sync with onboarding and messaging.

Ritmo wanted the streak to shape a member's first week, connected to the messaging tools it already used, and ready for its first release. It didn't want its developers spending those early months on gamification infrastructure.

Solution

Ritmo uses Trophy for streaks and keeps everything else, including payments, cause recommendations and messaging, in its own stack.

Daily giving streaks

Ritmo's streak counts one thing: the daily pick. Each time a member picks a cause, Ritmo sends Trophy a single event and Trophy extends their streak, handling time zones, day boundaries and resets.

The streak matters most in the first week. New members get a free 7-day trial with $1 a day of giving credit, so they start the habit on day one.

New members start with seven days of free giving credit, and their streak shows after each pick and on their impact page.

Webhooks and Customer.io

Ritmo already used Customer.io for email, push and SMS, so it didn't need Trophy to send messages. Instead, Trophy webhooks tell Ritmo's backend when a member extends or loses a streak, and Ritmo sends the matching message through Customer.io.

How a daily pick updates the streak and triggers a message through Customer.io.

Implementation

Ritmo's developers tried Trophy on the free plan for a couple of days before committing. The day after their first call with the Trophy team in March 2026, they had webhooks switched on and a separate staging environment to build against. The first version of Ritmo reached the App Store on April 27, 2026 with its streak in place, and the app launched nationally across the US on June 16.

Trophy's SDKs and API handle authentication, idempotency and retries, so Ritmo's integration work came down to sending one event per daily pick and reading the streak back into the app.

The Trophy team has stayed in close contact since launch, monitoring webhook delivery for Ritmo. When Ritmo asked for a way to keep a member's streak alive without extending it, that request helped shape streak pauses, which are now available to every Trophy customer.

Results

Ritmo went from first contact with Trophy to an App Store release with a working streak in about five weeks. It has kept shipping since, with roughly 20 App Store releases between April and September 2026 that added Giving Circles, Apple Pay, referral codes and cause recaps.

App Store reviewers say Ritmo makes regular giving easy to fit into their day:
